Matty Healy identifies himself as a humanist and atheist. The 34-year-old once revealed that he is against organized religion.

However, the musician has come under fire for his anti-Islamic remarks. BuzzFeed reported that Healy shared a screenshot of a tweet, saying, “You start dating a Muslim girl, then BOOM.”

The sentence reportedly draws a false relation between Muslims and bombs. Moreover, in a since-deleted tweet from 2014, Matty appeared to compare being Muslim with ISIS.

He wrote, “Isis are beheading young girls, and you want to question a non-religious, humanist perspective?” He added that he didn’t understand the world at all.

A young Muslim girl Farida Hashem, who was running the Harry Styles fan account, challenged the lead vocalist of the band 1975; he reportedly responded by saying a Harry Styles fan account educated him.

The Hendon-born musician also stated that he was not sorry for his remarks on religion but sorry to Hashem. Later, in an interview with The Guardian, Healy said what he meant was, “Don’t try to teach me about Islam when you’re only 13 years old. Stay in your lane if you’re telling me to do so.”

Hashem was reported to be 19 years old at the time.

Born Matthew Timothy Healy, Matty Healy is a native of Hendon, north London. He was born on 8 April 1989 to his parents,Tim Healy and Denise Welch.
