Requirements for Nigerian International Passport

As a Nigerian, the Nigerian international passport is your means to enjoy travels outside the country. Requirements for Nigerian International Passport

General documents required for the interview in order to obtain a Standard Passport:

  1. Local Government letter of identification.
  2. Birth certificate / Age declaration.
  3. 2 recent colour passport photographs
  4. Guarantor’s form sworn to before a commissioner of Oaths, Magistrate or High Court Judge
  5. Letter of consent from Parents for minors under 16 years
  6. Marriage certificate where applicable
  7. Police report in case of lost passport

The Application form with these supporting documents should be submitted to the passport office, Embassy or High commission

Below is a list of NIS (Nigerian Immigration Service) Passport fee according to age and type of booklet issued for:

Booklet type: 32 Pages

Age 0-17- N8,750

Age 18-59- N15,000

Age 60+- N8,750

Booklet type: 64 pages

Age 0-17- N20,000

Age 18-59- N20,000

Age 60+- N20,000

Either categories of Booklet pages attract an Address Verification Fee of N2, 000

Documents required for an Official e-Passport which are reserved for government officials

  1. A letter of introduction from the appropriate State government, Federal government Ministry or organization.
  2. Marriage certificate where applicable
  3. Police report in case of lost passport
  4. Letter of appointment / last promotion.

The application form with the appropriate supporting documents are to be submitted to the passport office / Embassy / High commission

Seamans Book

This is also known as a Machine-readable seaman’s passport (MRP). It is a traveling document designed for sea workers that keeps data of the owner on the identity page and can be easily retrieved by the authorities if the need arises.

In order to obtain a Seamans Book, the following documents are required :

  1. Local Government letter of identification
  2. Birth certificate / age declaration
  3. 2 recent colour passport photographs

The application form with these supporting documents are to be submitted to the passport office / Embassy / High commission

Note:

  • Make sure not to forget your Acknowledgment slip, payment receipt, and 2 recent photographs. These are applicable in all cases.
  • Make sure to print out a copy of the completed application form
  • For further processing, take the printed and signed application forms to the Passport Office, Embassy or High Commission.
  • A guarantor must attach the following documents
    1. Photocopy of the Data page of Nigerian standard Passport
    2. National Identity Card or Driving License

General Procedures for Passport Application:

  • Get to the website and Home page of the Nigeria Immigration Portal
  • Click on the appropriate application form so you can start the process:
  1. e-Passport Application Form
  2. MRP – Passport Application Form (This is not applicable In all missions)
    • Select a passport type i.e “Standard e-Passport” or “Official e-Passport
    • Click on ‘Start Application’ button.
    • Fill the Application form. Make sure to check the box after the  ‘I ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS FORM’
    • Click the “PRINT” Button in order to print out the filled form
    • Click on ‘Submit Application’ button. Here you will be able to view ‘Applicant details page’
    • Click on “Proceed to Online Payment”
    • Click to select Payment Currency. You will find the “Pay in Naira” or “Pay in Dollars” option
    • Click on ‘Continue’ button
    • Proceed to choose the currency you want to use for payment (Naira or US Dollars)
    • If you selected the option to ‘pay in Naira’, you will then be prompted to select ‘Pay Type’ (payment method) which is either via “Bank”, “Credit OR Debit card”
    • However, If you intend to pay at a bank, selected “Bank” and click ‘continue’,
        1. View the list of banks available to be used and then click on ‘Continue’.
        2. Print the Payment Acknowledgement Slip via the “Print Acknowledgment” button using your Transaction ID, Application ID & Reference Number.
        3. With the copy of your Payment acknowledgments slip, proceed to an available bank for payment.
      1. On making payment at the bank, make sure you are issued with an ‘approved payment platform provider’ receipt. This receipt will contain a “Validation Number” which is needed for confirmation of payment on the portal.
      2. If you intend paying through Credit/Debit card, select “Credit/Debit card” and click continue,
        1. You will be required to fill in your log-in credentials.
        2. After doing this, click the “Login” button and you will be sent to the payment portal
        3. Click the “PAY” button to proceed with the payment.
        4. The details of the Payment portal display application will be displayed, click on the “Continue” button.
        5. The “Value Card” payment page will be displayed, you are to then provide information of your card and click on the “OK” button
        6. After you have paid, the “Validation Number” will be generated. Make sure to store it and use it to confirm the payment.
        7. Click the “Print the Receipt” button to be able to print a receipt.

How to make use of your Validation Number

Having obtained the “Validation Number” after payment, proceed to the NIS portal for confirmation of payment:

  • Go to the “Query your Application Payment Status” and enter your Passport Application ID and Reference No.
  • If a “Validation Number” field is displayed, enter the number from your ‘approved payment platform provider’ receipt.
  • Click the “Search Record” button from which you will be directed to the “Applicant’s Details” page. Here, a date for your interview has been generated.
  • By using the buttons on this page, you can now print a Receipt or an Acknowledgement Slip. This will be needed for your interview
  • Your NIS e-receipt or acknowledgment slip will be presented in a new window.
  • Click on the “Print” button so as to send a copy to the printer.
